Nana Kwasi Bosomprah, the Paramount Chief of the Goaso Traditional Area in the Ahafo Region, has called on the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa, to address the National Democratic Congress (NDC) concerns regarding discrepancies in the voters’ register.

This appeal follows the NDC’s “Enough is Enough” nationwide demonstration on September 17, which was sparked by the Electoral Commission’s refusal to permit an external audit of the voter register.

NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah highlighted the necessity of a credible voters’ register, advocating for a forensic audit by the Electoral Commission.

He underscored the importance of their nationwide protest, which spanned all 16 regions of Ghana, to pressure the EC to resolve issues related to electoral integrity.

During a recent meeting with NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama and the Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs, Nana Kwasi Bosomprah advised the Electoral Commission to commit to an external audit to ensure peace and transparency in the electoral process.

He argued that if the EC maintains that the register is accurate, an audit would further validate its credibility.

Nana Kwasi Bosomprah also expressed frustration over the EC’s reluctance to heed his previous recommendation to decentralise the registration process to local villages and districts for greater accessibility.

He appealed to the EC to heed the NDC’s demands for peace to prevail saying “I’m disappointed the EC hasn’t listened. During registration, I advised Chairperson Jean Mensa to decentralise the process to villages and districts for easier access, considering transportation issues.”

“The EC’s response to the NDC’s concerns was uninspiring. I firmly believe an external audit is necessary. Denying this request raises suspicions.

“If the EC allows an audit and finds nothing, it will boost its credibility. I urge the EC to heed the NDC’s demands for peace to prevail.”
