Gov’t Increases Teachers’ CPD Allowance

The Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Education, has announced a significant increase in the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) allowance for teachers across the country.

In a statement issued by Kwasi Kwarteng, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Education and released in Accra yesterday, he confirmed that the CPD allowance for professional and non-professional teachers in pre-tertiary schools has been revised, with immediate effect.

He explained that professional teachers would now receive an annual CPD allowance of GH¢2,400 – a considerable increase from the previous GH¢1,200 – while Non-Professional teachers will see their allowance rise from GH¢800 to GH¢1,200.

According to the Ministry, payments for these new amounts have already been disbursed to the teachers.

The Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Education, is pleased to announce the increase in the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) allowance for both professional and non-professional teachers in pre-tertiary schools nationwide.

The CPD allowance for professional teachers has been increased from GH¢1,200 to GH¢2,400 annually. Non-Professional teachers will now receive GH¢1,200 up from GH¢800. Payments for these revised amounts have already been made to teachers.

These enhancements reflect the Government’s commitment to supporting teachers in pursuing professional development and skills upgrades, ensuring they are equipped with modern skills and knowledge to deliver effective teaching.

 

 

 

BACKGROUND

The Continuous Professional Development (CPD) allowance was introduced in 2020 by the Government as part of efforts to enhance the professional growth of teachers and improve the quality of education.

It provides financial support to professional and Non-Professional teachers in pre-tertiary schools to undertake training, acquire new teaching methodologies and upgrade their skills.
