2024 Presidential Polls: Court Battle Looms As Dr. Ayisha Challenges EC’s Disqualification Decision

A Ghanaian presidential hopeful has vowed to take legal action against the Electoral Commission (EC) in an attempt to halt the upcoming elections.

Dr. Agnes Ayisha, the founder and leader of the Liberation National Youth for Change (LNYC), vehemently condemned the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to disqualify her from the upcoming 2024 presidential elections.

The EC’s announcement on September 20, 2024, cited errors on her nomination form as the reason for her disqualification, alongside 12 other aspirants.

In response to the EC’s claims, Dr. Ayisha, who is running as an independent for presidency, argues that her disqualification was an intentional, unfair act that jeopardizes Ghana’s democratic system.

She asserts that she received no official communication from the EC regarding her disqualification, further exacerbating concerns about transparency.

According her, such an act is against the Process and my fundamental human rights as Stipulated by 1992 Constitution and Public Elections regulations, 2020 ( C.I 127).

Dr. Agnes Ayisha added that she will not relent in her pursuit of fairness and will exhaust all legal avenues to ensure my rightful inclusion in the presidential race.

“My team and I are not going to accept the outcome of the EC and l assure all my Supporters’ I
will fight this decision and pursue this matter till the end. I am a fighter and I will fight till the end,
I will not accept this kind of disrespect and will not accept the fact that Electoral Commission
does not want to go according to the rule in the constitution” she stated.

Dr. Ayisha views her disqualification as not only a personal injustice but also a betrayal of the trust placed in her by the Ghanaian people. Her campaign’s central theme of empowering youth and promoting national development resonated deeply with many citizens.

The EC’s decision has sparked widespread controversy, with some questioning the commission’s impartiality. Other disqualified aspirants, including Bernard Mornah of the People’s National Convention, have also initiated legal action against the EC.

As Dr. Ayisha prepares to challenge the EC’s decision in court, she remains resolute in her commitment to Ghana’s democratic ideals. Her determination to seek justice has garnered significant support from her supporters and sympathizers.
