The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG), has announced its intention to declare a nationwide strike due to the prolonged delay in finalizing a salary structure for Civil and Local Government Service staff.
Previously, in a letter dated June 21, 2024, CLOGSAG had notified that its members would go on strike in July 2024.
However, following discussions with the government, the strike was suspended, and a communiqué was issued.
CLOGSAG explained that they had agreed to call off the strike based on the understanding that the salary structure would be finalized by October 31, 2024, and implemented from January 1, 2025. Despite multiple meetings since then, the government has yet to make a concrete offer.
“From the foregoing, it is evident that the 31st October 2024 deadline for finalization of a salary structure for the Civil Service and the Local Government Service would not be met.
“In the light of the above, CLOGSAG would have no option than to declare a nationwide strike from Monday 4th November, 2024,” a statement they issued on Tuesday, October 22 said.
