Ghanaian boxing icon Clement Ike Quartey Senior has passed away in the United Kingdom on Saturday, November 2, 2024, as confirmed by the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF).
The first African athlete to win an Olympic medal was 86 years old, although the details surrounding his death have not been disclosed.
&nThe death of Clement, who is the older brother of legendary Ghanaian former World Champion Ike ”Bazooka Quartey earned historic silver medal in the Light Welterweight (63.5kg) category at the 1960 Rome Olympics.
He followed that up with a Gold medal at the 1962 Commonwealth Games held in Perth, Australia.
