On Wednesday 27th November 2024, at Agona-Amenfi Methodist School Park, marked a very significant milestone for the people of Amenfi Central constituency with respect to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party in the Western Region of Ghana.
It was then a controversial turmoil at a competent Court of jurisdiction, both in Accra and Secondi high courts. Among the contestant parties involved the incumbent member of parliament for the Constituency (Hon. Kwakye Ackah), the die-hard parliamentary contestant (Mad. Joana Gyan Cudjoe), who both belong to the NDC party and the Electoral Commission of Ghana.
If all could recall for a period of seven (7) months tangled Joana Gyan’s candidacy as duly elected PC on the ticket of NDC. It has been very unstable and controversial for the NDC to pick a legitimate parliamentary candidate (PC) for the area.
Lo and behold the humble prayers of Joana Gyan have prevailed to obtain the people’s mandate as PC.
THE LAUNCH
The Constituency campaign launched saw the dignitaries of former president John Dramani Mahama (flag bearer) of NDC 2024, Prof. Joshua Alabi (lead campaign manager for Mahama), Hon. Julius Debrah (former chief of staff), Hon. Nii Lantey Vanderpue (MP) for Odododiodoo Constituency, Hon. Nana Kwodjo Toku (Western Regional Chairman-NDC), Mad. Gladys Agyin (Western Regional Women organizer-NDC), Dr. Carl Ahin (National Deputy Director of international Affairs and former PC Aspirant) at the constituency, including all constituency executives at large.
Prior to the commencement of the programme a number of celebrities were invited to spice up the emotions of the constituents.
This includes Andrews Cudjoe also known as Keche the (Husband of the PC), Cece Tsum, Ohemaa Mercy, Nhyraba Kojo, Jack Alolomi, Dr. Cryme, Aya Ramzyb, Nero X, and others.
The former president and flag bearer gave a message to the gathering and said the following;
H.E John Mahama elaborated on the laments of the traditional authorities’ request, for a bad road network that had been abandoned for decades even under the stewardship of the previous NDC government and now the NPP.
Mahama promised road development in the next NDC administration including health and education, for the people of Amenfi Central. He also appealed for the mandate of the PC to be his subordinate to execute all his promises.
The flagbearer continues in his address and ensures hope to the constituents that should he have the people’s mandate to come back as a president will ensure proper and sustainable small-skill mining which would not affect the environment in any way.
He also assures the establishment of district vocational and Technical skills training institutes, which will be capable of giving diplomatic training to the youth.
With education, the feeding grant fund will be given back to the heads of the school administration to cater for food.
Then the shift system will also be reformed to suit a single-shift accommodation system. This would enhance the compulsory free secondary education, which will not be abolished as the NPP government claims against the NDC.
He also promised that there will be free first year in tertiary education fee absorption by the government.
In sports, the National Black Stars couldn’t qualify to represent the nation in the next African Cup of Nations. But the next NDC government is coming to properly structure the management of the national team.
Mahama also affirms the free fertilizer, chemicals, and other farming inputs for cocoa farmers shall be re-installed in his next NDC government administration.
The flagbearer used this opportunity to educate the electorate on how to vote on election day. But he also advised the people to vote for him massively on number eight (8) on the ballot, and they must also vote number two (2) for the parliamentary candidate (PC).
In his conclusion, he officially launched the Constituency campaign and also upheld the arm of the PC to the constituents to signal the unity, stability, and development of Amenfi Central.
Joana Gyan Cudjoe, the Parliamentary candidate of NDC also addressed the people and encouraged them to vote number eight (8) for John Dramani Mahama as incoming president in 2025, and number two (2) for Joana Gyan Cudjoe, as a member of parliament for the Constituency for more future development.
