As Ghanaians prepare to elect a new president in the upcoming elections, political activities have intensified, with party members actively campaigning across the country.

In the Atwima Kwanwoma Constituency, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has taken an unusual step to ensure loyalty within their ranks.

The constituency executives, led by Chairman Simon Alonga, recently performed traditional rites to invoke deities, cursing any party member who accepts money from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to sabotage their efforts.

This move follows allegations that some NDC members took bribes from the NPP during the 2020 elections, undermining their party’s chances.

Speaking after the ceremony, Mr. Simon Alonga explained the rationale behind the action. “We have received information that some of our members are being given money by the NPP, and others are prepared to accept these bribes to work against our victory. As a leader of this party, I will not sit idle and allow such betrayals to happen,” he stated.

He issued a stern warning to potential defectors. “Anyone who takes money from the NPP to sabotage our party will face the wrath of the gods. The deities we invoked will kill such individuals and use their families for thanksgiving sacrifices.”

The Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee and Council of Elders, Mr. Eric Nyaaba Awuli, expressed full support for the initiative, emphasizing the need to eliminate greed and disloyalty within the party.

“We cannot afford to remain in opposition for another four years because of a few individuals’ selfish interests. What the chairman did is necessary to protect our collective future,” he remarked.

Other executives present also shared their determination to ensure victory for the NDC in the forthcoming elections. They promised to take all necessary measures to secure their party’s success.

The ritual, which involved the use of sheep, fowls, eggs, and other materials, was performed by Nana Komfo Kone, a traditional priest and an NDC member.

The unusual step has sparked conversations within the constituency, with some applauding the move as a display of loyalty and commitment, while others have questioned its appropriateness. Regardless, the NDC executives in Atwima Kwanwoma remain resolute in their quest to reclaim power.
