The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has expressed strong disapproval of the Electoral Commission’s decision to conduct a rerun in the Dome Kwabenya constituency.
This reaction follows the Electoral Commission’s (EC) announcement to rerun elections at the Abokobi Women’s Development Centre within the Dome Kwabenya constituency, a decision also dismissed by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In a statement released on December 30, Nana Ofori Owusu, National Chairman of the PPP, urged the EC to reconsider its decision, describing it as “unlawful.”
The PPP argued that the electoral management body’s decision amounts to an “unfair machination to twist the hands of the voters.”
Furthermore, the PPP accused the EC of attempting to influence the outcome of the Dome Kwabenya constituency parliamentary elections to favour the New Patriotic Party candidate, Mike Oquaye Jnr.
“The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has taken notice of the Electoral Commission’s decision to run fresh elections at the Abokobi Women Development Training Centre polling station within the Dome Kwabenya constituency.
“We call on the EC to desist from such acts as they are unlawful and amount to an unfair machination to twist the hands of the voters who have already taken time out of their busy schedules to make their choices known on December 7th 2024.
“This bizarre decision of the EC is an attempt to influence the outcome of the Dome Kwabenya constituency parliamentary elections to favour the New Patriotic Party
candidate, who clearly lost to the NDC candidate.”
PPP further described the EC’s decision to rerun Dome Kwabeenya as “very shallow and untenable”.
