The Ogome Mankralo Seiyelor and Ga – Joma Husu Akwashongtse, Nene Nii Avi II has expressed concerns over the current government’s decision to scrap the chieftaincy ministry, which has been in operation for decades.
Since the chieftaincy legislation has only been in effect on the street, the traditional ruler has warned the new ministerial committee setting up the new chieftaincy committee to be extremely watchful and thoughtful in their working approach and procedures before it turns out to be something different.
NENE NII AVI II OGOME MANKRALO SEIYELOR AND GA – JOMA HUSU AKWASHONGTSE WRITES
I have seen lots of criticism in this current government for scraping the chieftaincy ministry which had functioned since the past decades. I hereby wish to caution the new ministerial committee on setting up the new chieftaincy committee to be carefully vigilant and considerate in their working approach and procedures before it turns out to be something different because our chieftaincy act has been solely on the street.
Some of us the young chiefs in this traditional ruling dispensation are always facing backlash. Our roles and responsibilities in economic growth have been shut down without any proper modalities.
As a traditional ruler, from my first appointment as Ogome Chief of Staff in Eastern region Yilo Krobor, before I became the Seiyelor Ogome Mankralo, I have contributed a lot in my youthful age till date.
Some of my contributions are as follows
1. Land resolution
2. Family dispute
3. Youth empowerment
4. Criminal issues assistance in investigation at the police stations
5. Community engagement on health issues
All these efforts have transformed the lives of the youths to work hard nevertheless and achieve their goals.
From my years of experience both in politics and in tradition, have made me ascend the role of a youth mentor. My personal working experience in jobs and various career positions that I occupied in the past, spans across multiple disciplines in not less than twelve (12) industries ranging from manufacturing, agricultural, services-related, driving, marketing, sales, etc.
I would appreciate this current government more if only they would give the core mandate to traditional rulers to take major roles in the socio-economic development of our beloved country Ghana.
My current analysis is not political but reality because when you look at the youths today starting from ten years back were mostly engaged in land business, building, and construction and they always listened to the traditional authorities due to the nature of the business they do.
We own the lands and land is very precious so to protect our lands and natural resources, we must engage traditional authorities to transform the country.
The GA-Mantse, King Tackie Tawiah, the former president Nana Akuffo Addo, the Former regional minister, Hon. Tatus Glover, etc played a significant role in chieftaincy and land issues so I urge the current government led by His Excellency John Dramani Mahama to support and give us traditional rulers the courage to continue with our good works.
Our office is non-political but once we all have accepted the word Republic, we must also work well with the current government for peace and strength of our democracy.
Thank you
Yours favorite chief
