The Member of Parliament for Madina Constituency, Honourable Francis-Xavier Sosu, has reassured Ghanaians of President John Dramani Mahama’s dedication to addressing critical national issues, including illegal small-scale mining (galamsey), corruption, and LGBTQIA+ practices.
Speaking during the 80th-anniversary celebration of the St. Paul Catholic Church in Kpehe, Accra, Honourable Sosu emphasized that President Mahama remains steadfast in his promises to rebuild Ghana and restore trust in leadership.
The event, officiated by the Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, highlighted the church’s journey since its establishment in 1945 and its role in nurturing faith and fostering social transformation.
Addressing the congregation, Honourable Sosu reiterated that resetting Ghana requires collective effort.
“Every Ghanaian, church member, and leader has a role to play in rebuilding our nation. President Mahama is committed to fighting corruption and galamsey while ensuring that Ghana achieves its development goals,” he said.
The MP, a prominent legal practitioner, also recounted how he has consistently conveyed messages from church congregations to President Mahama, reflecting the people’s trust in his leadership. He noted that the President has assured him of his unwavering commitment to fulfilling his campaign promises.
In support of the church’s anniversary celebrations, Honourable Sosu presented a cheque for GH₵10,000.00 on behalf of President Mahama to fund developmental projects and programs.
Archbishop Kwofie expressed gratitude to both President Mahama and Honourable Sosu for their support. He urged leaders to uphold integrity and deliver on their promises, reminding the President of the public’s expectations concerning galamsey, corruption, and LGBTQIA+ issues.
“We have faith in you, Mr. President, to honor your word and lead with humility and fear of God,” Archbishop Kwofie stated.
The event concluded with a call for collective prayers and action to rebuild Ghana and create a prosperous future for all citizens.
Honourable Sosu concluded his address by emphasizing the dire need for unity and dedication in solving Ghana’s current challenges.
He acknowledged the difficult state of the nation, citing economic struggles, increasing debt levels, and the deteriorating strength of the Ghanaian cedi.
“The journey to reset Ghana will not be easy, but it is one we must embark on together. President Mahama is committed to restoring faith in governance and addressing the root causes of our struggles. However, this cannot be achieved by him alone. It requires the collective effort of all Ghanaians,” Honourable Sosu stressed.
He also took the opportunity to thank the church for its unwavering spiritual support and its role in fostering hope within communities.
“As we press forward with rebuilding Ghana, we urge the church to continue to intercede on behalf of the nation. With God’s guidance, nothing is impossible,” he added.
The MP’s remarks resonated deeply with the congregation, who cheered in approval, echoing their trust in President Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to fulfill their promises.
The event was a vibrant celebration of faith, heritage, and hope, with various dignitaries, church leaders, and members participating in activities to mark the church’s 80 years of existence.
Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, in his closing remarks, reiterated the church’s commitment to holding leaders accountable while praying for their success in rebuilding the nation.
“Leadership is a calling to serve, and we will continue to pray for our leaders to rise above self-interest and focus on the greater good of Ghana,” he said.
The anniversary celebration concluded with a thanksgiving service, cultural displays, and the unveiling of a commemorative plaque to mark the church’s milestone.
