A recent announcement by the National Service Authority (NSA) claiming that all national service allowance arrears have been paid has sparked outrage among service personnel. However, more than 80% of personnel assert that they are yet to receive their arrears, contradicting the NSA’s statement.

The NSA’s declaration, made last week, stated that all outstanding allowances, including those for September and October 2024, had been “duly paid.” Nevertheless, many personnel, particularly those from Colleges of Education, claim they have not received their November, December, and January allowances.¹

This situation has led to widespread frustration, with personnel taking to social media to express their disappointment and concern. A Facebook post highlighted the disparities in payments, noting that university-trained personnel received their allowances, while their counterparts from Colleges of Education were left out.

The NSA’s misleading announcement has not only caused financial distress but also eroded trust among service personnel. Many are now demanding transparency and clarity on the payment process, seeking answers on when, or if, they will receive their outstanding allowances.

This is not the first time the NSA has faced criticism for its handling of allowance payments. In July 2024, the National Service Personnel Association (NASPA) released a statement claiming that all arrears owed to personnel subscribed to the GhanaPay system had been settled. However, this announcement also proved to be misleading, with many personnel reporting that they had not received their payments.²
