The Progressive Youth Front (PYF), a prominent youth-centered pressure group, has issued a passionate appeal to President John Mahama to reconsider his decision to revoke after December 7th appointments and recruitments.
The group is deeply concerned that this move would have far-reaching consequences for Ghana’s youth, ultimately exacerbating the country’s already alarming unemployment rate.
According to the PYF, the mass dismissal of gainfully employed youth under the pretense of administrative reforms is not only a betrayal of trust but also a direct attack on the economic security and aspirations of hardworking young citizens.
“At a time when youth unemployment remains a pressing national challenge, such actions only serve to deepen despair and widen inequalities,” said a press release obtained by MyGhanaMedia.com.
The PYF strongly condemns this development and calls on the government to reverse this unjust decision and prioritize the well-being of the nation’s youth, as they once pledged to do.
The Progressive Youth Front (PYF), a youth-centered organization dedicated to advocating for policies and programs that uplift and empower all Ghanaian youth, finds it deeply disheartening
and unjust that a government formed by a party that campaigned on the promise of youth advancement and development—the NDC—has now chosen to undermine the very livelihoods
of young Ghanaians.

THE ONGOING REVOCATION OF APPOINTMENTS IN THE PUBLIC SECTOR IS ILLEGAL AND
INSENSITIVE – PRESIDENT JOHN MAHAMA MUST STOP IT NOW.
The Progressive Youth Front (PYF), Ghana, strongly condemns the ongoing revocation of public sector appointments under the directive of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, led by President John Mahama.
This action is not only illegal and insensitive but also a direct betrayal of the NDC’s own campaign promises to ensure available and equitable job opportunities for all Ghanaian youth.
During the 2024 campaign, the NDC repeatedly assured the youth of Ghana that it would work to reduce unemployment by creating more opportunities, particularly through the much-touted
24-hour economy policy. This policy presupposed the expansion of the workforce to accommodate more young people, not the mass sacking of existing workers. However, just weeks into office, the government is instead engaging in a politically motivated purge, terminating the appointments of thousands of hardworking young Ghanaians who secured their
positions through merit and due process.
The decision to revoke appointments in key public sector institutions will put over 12,000 Ghanaian youth out of work, bringing untold hardships to them, their families, and dependents.
This reckless action will not only worsen unemployment but also contradicts the very foundation of the NDC’s so-called pro-youth policies.
We wish to remind President Mahama and his government that Ghana is a democracy governed by laws, and no administration has the power to arbitrarily dismiss public sector workers based
on political considerations. The Progressive Youth Front will not stand by while the government plunges thousands of young people into joblessness and despair.
CALL TO ACTION
The Progressive Youth Front (PYF), a youth-centered organization dedicated to advocating for policies and programs that uplift and empower all Ghanaian youth, finds it deeply disheartening
and unjust that a government formed by a party that campaigned on the promise of youth advancement and development—the NDC—has now chosen to undermine the very livelihoods
of young Ghanaians.
The mass dismissal of gainfully employed youth under the pretense of administrative reforms is not only a betrayal of trust but also a direct attack on the economic security and aspirations of hardworking young citizens. At a time when youth unemployment remains a pressing national challenge, such actions only serve to deepen despair and widen inequalities. The PYF strongly condemns this development and calls on the government to reverse this unjust decision and prioritize the well-being of the nation’s youth, as they once pledged to do.
We are calling on all affected persons to join us in instituting legal action against the Government of Ghana for this reprehensible and unconstitutional action. We will use every available legal means to seek redress and justice for the victims of this politically motivated job termination.
We also urge civil society organizations, labor unions, the media, and all well-meaning Ghanaians to speak out against this injustice and demand an immediate reversal of these terminations. The youth of Ghana deserve better, and we will not relent until fairness and justice prevail.
