VIDEO: President Mahama Boosts Black Stars’ Morale With Surprise Visit Ahead of Chad, Madagascar Games

President John Mahama made a surprise visit to the Black Stars’ training session on Wednesday, boosting the team’s morale ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier match against Chad on Friday, March 21, 2025 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Addressing the players and technical team, President Mahama acknowledged the team’s recent struggles but expressed faith in their ability to reverse the situation

President Mahama urged the players to go for victory, emphasizing the country’s support for the team.

“We didn’t qualify for the AFCON. But even when we qualified for the AFCON, we crashed out very early the last time. And so we haven’t given up on you.

“We still believe that the Black Stars can find its glory again. And it’s dependent on you, the technical team, and the management committee.” he noted

The President also reminded the players that while the nation stands behind them, their success ultimately depends on their commitment and effort on the pitch.

“The goals will come from these feet that are right here. And so it takes sacrifice. It takes strength. We all like to watch you when you play for your teams, and we expect that you bring some of that dedication to the national team.” he said.

Mahama expressed his nervousness about watching live football matches, but assured the team of his support.

“I’ll take time off and watch the game myself. Even though my heart is not very good at watching soccer, I will brave it. They say I should eat before I go and sit down. And my hope is that you would justify my sitting and watching you guys. The whole of Ghana is going to be behind you, and I’m sure that you can make it,” Mahama said.

His presence was a significant motivator for the players, who are gearing up for the important match.

However, President Mahama was not the only high-profile visitor to the Black Stars’ training session.

Some legendary former players, including Asamoah Gyan and Stephen Appiah, also stopped by to offer their support and words of encouragement.

Asamoah Gyan, Ghana’s all-time leading scorer, shared his experiences and insights with the players, while Stephen Appiah, a former captain of the Black Stars, reminded the team of the importance of unity and teamwork.

The presence of these football legends further boosted the team’s morale and reminded them of the rich history and tradition of Ghanaian football.

The Black Stars have been training intensively at the Accra Sports Stadium since Monday, with all 23 players called up for the match in attendance.

The team’s head coach, Otto Addo, has been putting the players through their paces, focusing on tactics and strategies to overcome their opponents.

The match against Chad on Friday is a critical one for the Black Stars, as they seek to advance in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.

With President Mahama’s visit and the team’s intense training, the Black Stars are poised to deliver a winning performance.

The Black Stars are set to face Chad on March 21 before playing Madagascar three days later in Morocco as they aim to keep their World Cup qualification hopes alive.
