Residents of Tweapease, a farming community in the Kwaebibrem Municipality of the Eastern Region, are calling on mobile communications companies and the government to provide them with telephone network connectivity.
The community is struggling with poor mobile network coverage, making it challenging for inhabitants to stay in touch with family, relatives, and business associates.
The community relies heavily on agriculture, but the lack of mobile network connectivity severely hinders communication with the outside world.
According to Chief Berima Asirifi Katwobo II of Akyem Tweapease, the network outage affects access to emergency services, healthcare, and education.
He revealed that his people have to travel long distances to access these basic services, resulting in wasted time, resources, and opportunities.
Meanwhile, the Assembly member for the area, Ayim Darkwah noted that the lack of network connectivity has severely impacted economic activities in the area.
According to him, without access to vital information on market prices, farmers struggle to produce and sell their crops efficiently, highlighting the urgent need for mobile network connectivity in Tweapease.
Residents lamented that their community is cut off from the rest of the world, unable to make simple phone calls to order farming inputs or negotiate prices with buyers.
They said they have to climb trees and anthills in search of a network to make or receive calls when the need arises and that this deprived them of accessing vital information on time and derailed their business efforts.
Despite repeated appeals to mobile operators and the government, their pleas for network connectivity remain unanswered.
They said the border community needs vital facilities to make communication easy.
