A female student of the Seventh Day Adventist Secondary School in Bantama in the Ashanti Region has sustained severe injuries after being shot in the head by a colleague in class on Friday morning, April 4, 2025.
According to reliable sources within the school, the incident occurred during break time when Bernard Amoabeng, a form two student, brought a gun to school.
Information available indicates the suspect brandished a pistol after the morning’s lesson in class.
An argument reportedly ensued among the students over whether the weapon was functional.
In an attempt to prove it was, Amoabeng allegedly fired the gun, accidentally shooting and injuring two students.
Penamang sustained a critical gunshot wound to her forehead. She was initially rushed to Kwadaso Hospital but was later referred to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital due to the severity of her condition.
The Suame Police have arrested Amoabeng and initiated a full investigation into the incident.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has launched an investigation following a shooting incident at the Adventist Senior High School, Kumasi, on Friday, April 4, 2025, around 12:00 pm.
Preliminary findings indicate that a 16-year-old second-year student, whose identity is being withheld, brought a locally manufactured pistol loaded with one BB ammunition to the school.
The student reportedly attempted to display the firearm to a classmate when it accidentally discharged, injuring another student. The names of those involved remain confidential.
The injured student received treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and is currently in stable condition. Meanwhile, the juvenile suspect has been taken into police custody, and the empty cartridge has been recovered as evidence.
During questioning, the suspect revealed that the firearm was taken from his father’s bedroom without his father’s consent. Authorities are now working to locate and arrest the father to assist in the ongoing investigation.
