Police Ban Movement Of Its Officers In Binduri, Bawku, Pusiga And Garu

A Police wireless message has announced a ban on the movement of police personnel in Binduri, Bawku, Pusiga and Garu.

The message indicated that the service has observed a dangerous development in Bawku and its environs personnel and their families have become targets in these areas by unknown persons.

The message issued by ACP J. W Darison said, “The police administration has observed a dangerous development in Bawku and its environs personnel and their families have become targets in these areas by unknown persons. The Police Service directs a ban on personnel travelling to Bawku with immediate effect.”

“The Police further directs movement of personnel both indigenes and non-indigenes, including their families in Pusiga and Binduri is banned. Personnel deployed on OPS duties in these areas should ensure they put on appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and are under armoured escort.

“Accept for strict compliance, treat urgently. By this directive, Garu can also be dangerous so all should take note and comply.”

This directive was issued after a deadly gun attack in Binduri resulted in the death of a man.

The incident occurred near Atuba, a suburb of Binduri Central. While authorities confirmed receiving information about the attack, they were unable to provide further details at this time.

However, the security sources revealed that the attackers set the victim’s body and motorcycle on fire after the killing.

Although the exact motive behind the attack remains unconfirmed, initial assessments suggest it may be linked to the ongoing Bawku chieftaincy conflict, which has seen a resurgence in recent weeks.

This latest violent episode comes less than 24 hours after a high-level visit by the Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, to the Bawku Naba, Asigri Abugrago Azoka II.

During the visit, the IGP appealed to the Bawku Naba for closer collaboration with security agencies to help restore peace and stability in the area. He pledged that the police would act professionally and remain neutral in their peacekeeping efforts.
The IGP’s commitment came in response to a petition submitted by the Kusaug Youth, who raised serious concerns about the conduct of some police officers operating in the region.

Meanwhile, the Bawku chapter of the Mamprugu Youth Association (MAYA) has strongly condemned the attack. The group is calling on the government to implement urgent measures, including increasing security presence in Binduri and enforcing a restriction on motorbike usage in the area.

MAYA has also urged the Member of Parliament for Binduri, Mahmoud Issifu, to take swift and practical action to address the escalating insecurity in the constituency.
