The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Member of Parliament for Akyem Swedru Constituency in the Eastern Region, Mr. Kennedy Osei Nyarko, delivered twenty-nine (29) flatscreen television sets and seven hundred and seventy-seven (770) dual desks to the basic schools within his constituency.
On Friday, September 13, 2024, the legislator, in tandem with Mr. Dominic Fobi, the chairman of the New Patriotic Party Constituency, presented the materials to the district education unit in his constituency at the district office.
Presentation
The televisions were donated in response to a plea by the basic school headteachers to the MP to aid in kindergarten (KG) teaching.
This is one of the several interventions by the Akyem Swedru MP to help improve education in the constituency.
A 43-inch flatscreen TV was given to each of the 28 kindergarten-level basic schools in the Birim South District, in addition to the Education Directorate’s office.
Additionally, the mono desks were given to elementary schools where pupils had trouble finding places to sit and study.
Improving Education
Member of Parliament for Akim Swedru Constituency, Kennedy Osei Nyarko, addressed the media after the items’ presentation, regretting his dedication to improving education in the Birim South district.
The donation, according to him, forms part of his efforts towards promoting quality education in the constituency.
On the TV donation to kindergarten-level basic schools, the lawmaker noted that the current trends of learning and teaching demand that modern equipment be used in carrying out the same.
He says that in addition to reiterating President Akufo-Addo’s determination to see through revolutionary initiatives like Free SHS, the desk donation will also help address the inadequate number of desks in his constituency.
He stated that President Akufo-Addo has an unmatched record in education, which has witnessed systematic improvement since 2017.
He said the government’s educational strides, particularly the provision of ultra-modern classroom blocks for several schools, equipped with laboratories, ICT centers, and libraries, are already changing lives and the narrative of education in Ghana.
Gratitude
Henry Theodore Sintim, the director of education for Birim South District, expressed his excitement upon receiving the items, citing the rarity of the donation in the surrounding area.
Kennedy Osei Nyarko’s kind gift to help the district’s efforts to improve learning outcomes was acknowledged by him.
