We write to solidarise with the University Teachers Association Of Ghana (UTAG) and Senior Staff of University of Ghana (SS-UoG) on their decision to embark on industrial strike pressing demands for better conditions of service for their workers.
As a Coalition we believe this captivity period of Ghanaian workers is a test for various Union to either pass or fail the test. We also believe this is the time to segregate the sellouts Union leadership from leadership who represent the interest of Ghanaian workers.
We also want to seize the opportunity to applaud the Leadership of the Public Sector Workers Union (PSWU) who have also shown the way by petitioning the TUC against the 4% salary increment and stated boldly intended action in case of non-compliance.
Our Coalition also congratulates the Leadership of GPRTU for their relentless effort to secure 13% increment for their members. An action which people with PhDs couldn’t achieve half of it for their members.
We therefore urge the leadership of the remaining unions to follow same and get the Leadership of TUC and Organised Labour to go for renegotiations in the best interest of the suffering Ghanaian workers.Any Union leader who speaks the language of Government instead of the language of Ghanaian workers have no business taking your monthly dues in the name of fighting for your interest.We are urging all members to Compel your Union National Executives to come out with their position on this 4 % salary increment, you pay them to represent you in a time like this and they must be accountable to you.
