Our Children Must Go To School – President Akufo-Addo Assures Parents As Schools Begin 15th January

View pictures in App save up to 80% data.President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has finally granted administrators of the various public and private educational institutions across the country to resume full academic work beginning 15 January 2021. This the President explained comes after an extensive consultation with cabinet in line with government’s phased easing of restrictions on various sectors of the country.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo noted in his 21st address to the nation on the COVID-19 pandemic that a more strategic and controlled mechanism has been deployed since the pandemic broke out in the country, to curtail the spread of the novel coronavirus. He noted that the successes have excited considerations to reopen schools so that normal academic life could resume for the younger ones.

He mentioned that students from the kindergarten, primary and junior high schools would resume academic work by January 15, 2021, and their seniors at the second cycle and tertiary institutions joins on January 18 onward.

“We will continue pursue a strategic, controlled, progressive and phased easing of restrictions, this time in all public and private Basic schools, Junior High, Senior High, and tertiary institutions across the country beginning this month of January. The lessons drawn from the reopening of some sections of our educational institutions, in the course of last year has put us in a much better position to oversee successfully, the full reopening of our schools. Our children must go to school, albeit, safely. We are satisfied that in the current circumstances, the reopening of our schools is safe.

“So on 15 January, our children in Kindergarten, Primary and Junior High in both private and public schools will be back in school. All SHS 1 students will start classes from 10 March, will all students embarking on a single track calendar. Their seniors in SHS 2 and 3 will however, will return to school on 18 January. I must stress that SHS 3 students in all schools like SHS 1 students will no longer run the double track system. The expansion of infrastructure at the various Senior High Schools over the last three years has brought us to this favorable situation. However the double track system will still be applicable to SHS 2 students in schools that employing it,” he stated.

This news comes with some assurance of government’s responsibility of ensuring that every child and student that attends school is protected. He urged parents, guardians and the public to act responsibly as the fight against the virus is not out pf the woods yet. The President however allayed fears that the strain of the novel coronavirus had mutated in-country. He clarified that the old battled viral strain had not mutated, adding that the government is working at securing enough vaccines to inoculate the citizenry against the viral infection.
