The first daughter of the Rawlings, Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, has urged the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), founded by her later father Jerry John Rawlings, to make amends with the former president’s widow, Mrs Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, who, at a point, fell out with her husband’s party to form hers.
Mrs Agyeman-Rawlings resigned from the NDC in 2012 to form the National Democratic Party (NDP) after losing a flag bearer race to late President John Evans Atta Mills.
Speaking at the first-anniversary commemoration ceremony of the late President Rawlings’ passing on Friday, 12 November 2021, the Klottey Korle MP said: “I want to use this opportunity to ask that as we remember the old man, who we never expected to pass when he did, let’s make amends”.
“Let us approach those we have wronged”, she urged.
“At this juncture, I would want to say what no one wants to hear: Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings is an integral part of the party”, she noted.
“Let us do all we can to bring her back”, Dr Agyemang-Rawlings appealed.
“In every family”, she noted, “there is conflict; but there are also elders who will mediate the conflict”.
“We are calling on our elders; this is the time”, said the medical doctor-turned-politician.
“We don’t know what tomorrow holds but if we want victory to rescue the people of Ghana from their current situation, let us do what we have to do.”
