A Chartered Accountant and Economist, Dr Sampson Anomah, has advised Ghanaians to keep all activities of government under surveillance to ensure our taxes being paid are used for the right developmental purposes in the country.
Dr Anomah who also doubles as a Senior Lecturer and the Head of the Department of Accountancy and Accounting Information Systems at the Kumasi Technical University in an interview with Gye Nyame Fm’s Kwaku Mensah Abrampa on Adeakye Abia monitored by MyGhanaMedia.com, stated that, the only way for the country to develop is the payment of taxes. The people of Ghana should therefore begin to accept everyone will have to contribute his or her widow’s might.
He further said that to ensure our tax revenue is used for its intended purposes as indicated in the 2022 budget, Ghanaians must institute strict measures of surveillance to keep the government on its toes.
Every citizen of Ghana who has accepted to pay the proposed taxes must responsibly monitor government activities in the country. Moreover, Journalists must take advantage of the Right to Information Bill to obtain information about how funds are used in the various government agencies for citizens to openly criticize and commend the government.
He advised that journalism based on frenzied conjecture of corruption on the part of government is irresponsible. Responsible journalism thrives on hard evidence with a true and fair interpretation of events.
On the creation of 11 million jobs from the proceeds of the E-levy as stated by the finance minister, Dr Sampson Anomah query on how to come by such figure in just 3years time. He said the government should rather consider the creation of more avenues for entrepreneurs to commence their businesses. He added that creating 11 million jobs from the proceeds of the E-levy in just the remaining 3years of NPP 2nd term governance is unjustifiably ambitious hence the government must reconsider such targets.
