Residents of Ahwerewa-Bontefuo in the Amansie West District in the Ashanti, have protested against Mr. Benard Antwi Bosiako popularly known as “Wontumi” who is the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party.
Protesters disclosed that the contractor has moved out of the site after very little upgrading of the roads and the reason behind the leave has not been made known.
Nana Osei Owusu Kuffuor Akunnor Ababio, the Chief of Ahwerewa-Bontefuo who was very much flustered and was clad with dust, disclosed that the crime rate has increased in the vicinity and sometimes armed robbers take over the road to attack traders.
He added that his people cannot walk alone unless in pairs especially at night and failure to abide often leads to attacks.
Nana Osei Kuffuor again said, that since the road is occupied by dust which makes it drivers very difficult to see their way, robbers have taken advantage of the vehicular slow down to raid drivers and passersby of their belongings.
A female resident, Madam Afia Saah who spoke with Isaac Owusu expressed their worries about how dust has contributed to the low patronage of their products. According to her “we are traders on the roadside but due to the dusty nature of the road, our new products when you look at it looks like it’s been here for decades so people have stopped patronizing it and it has affected us severely”.
The Unit Committee Chairman of Ahwerewa, Mr. Kwame Ampofo asserted that the road from Seidi through to Ahwerewa and to Esaase-Bontefuo was awarded to Chairman Wontumi in 2016 and it has been neglected afterward.
He threatened that he and his people will advise themselves in the coming elections if the contractor fails to come on-site regardless of them being loyal to the NPP in every general election.
He then pleaded on government as matter of urgency to fulfill their promise or face their wrath.
