The current state of the world’s economy and it’s devastating nature has made competent leaders across the globe to adopt new systems that can help them overcome the debilitating effects of the Covid-19 shock. In fact, Ghana is been recognized as one of the best managers of Covid-19 by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Productivity averagely across the globe has been greatly affected as a result of Covid-19.
The COVID-19 pandemic struck the global economy after a decade characterized by a broad-based decline in productivity growth. Global labor productivity growth slowed from a peak of 2.7 percent in 2007, just before the global financial crisis, to a post-crisis trough of 1.5 percent in 2016, and it remained below 2 percent a year in 2017-18. The post crisis slowdown was widespread, affecting around 70 percent of advanced economies and EMDEs, home to over 80 percent of the global extreme poor. The productivity growth deceleration in EMDEs was the steepest, longest, and most synchronized since 1970.
It takes a competent and strategic leadership that deeply thinks outside the box to find solutions to remedy the situation.
The introduction of E-levy is jeered towards 3 key components namely;
1. To create Employment for the Youth (YouStart).
2. To improve physical infrastructure roads, hospitals, markets etc.
3. Digitization (cybersecurity).
These are some of the basic needs majority of Ghanaians need.
We cannot continue to borrow before these basic developmental projects can be executed. The surest way to go about is by mobilizing funds internally so therefore the introduction of E-levy. If any leader of government at this moment when every economy is struggling still thinks about borrowing and to the extent of going to the IMF then the followers should prepare for more cataclysmic events in the future.
Human’s are really trapped by their words. It is counterintuitive to hear Former President Mahama today is telling ghanaians that he will cancel E-levy when voted to power. The unfortunate incident is that he has not given us any assurance or time line either first month , first quarter or first year of his office that this cancellation will come into effect. This clearly shows a sign of mendacious statements in his speech. He has been inconsistently inconsistent in most of his communication. We do not have short memory as he may think.
Ex President Mahama is on record to have said that he is never going to pay nurses trainees allowances and prefer loosing elections than restoring teacher trainees allowances but he latter on paid nurses trainees table top allowances and also indicated that he is considering restoring teacher trainees allowances when we had some few months to the 2016 elections. The Former President and his NDC as a political party can never be trusted. They have promised Ghanaians heaven and earth but could take us even to the bakery.
I urge ghanaians to rally behind this government because that is the only surest way to take our motherland to the promised land.
