He was born on February 3, 1957 at Breman, near Kumasi.
He completed St Peter’s Secondary School in Nkwantia Kwahu in the Eastern Region.
Before he got admission to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), he was at the Faculty of Law of the University of Ghana for only a week before switching to KNUST to study Planning.
While at KNUST, he was dealing in spare parts. Sometimes he travelled to Nigeria to buy some of the parts, explaining that that was how he started making money.
In 1989, he travelled to Zimbabwe to work for a year, yet he still used to travel to Lagos to buy the parts, which were brought to Ghana to restock his shops.
At Senior High school he became President of the Students’ Movement for African Unity (SMAU).
At KNUST, he became the Hall President of University Hall (Katanga) after failing to win the SRC Presidency. some unfortunate incident happened and he was later made the acting SRC President.
After his return to Ghana from Zimbabwe, he joined Dr John Bilson, Dr Richard Anane, Mr Obeng Manu and others to form the Danquah Busia Club in the late 1990s to activate the interest of like-minded people.
Before then, they had formed the Progressive Youth Club, which was chaired by Malik Yakubu Alhassan, former Deputy Speaker of Parliament, with others, including Kakra and Panyin Essamuah, Dr Richard Anane, Dan Botwe, among others.
In 1996 he contested parliamentary election in the Old Tafo Suame Constituency and won.
Between 1997 and 2000 he was the Secretary of the Minority Caucus in Parliament.
In 2004 Tafo Pankrono was carved out of the Suame Old Tafo constituency. He was elected as Mp for the Suame Constituency.
Between 2001-2004, he served as Deputy Majority Whip and later Majority Chief Whip.
Between 2004 and 2008 he served as Deputy Majority Leader, Member of the ECOWAS Parliament, among others.
He also served as a Minister of State in the Office of the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs.
Between 2009 and 2016 he became the Minority leader in Parliament.
As minority leader, he showed dexterity, meticulousness and wisdom. Ghanaians still remember these popular words from him
“Mr Chairman, I am sorry, but what you are doing is bogus, whimsical and capricious”
In 2017, he became the Majority leader in Parliament.
President Akufo-Addo in 2017 appointed him as a cabinet Minister in charge of Parliamentary affairs.
In 2020, he has been reelected as the Mp for Suame.
President Akufo-Addo has reappointed him as Minister for parliamentary affairs.
He is the most experienced legislator and one of the most experienced politicians in this country.
He is married to Irene with 5 Children.
