The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has stated that it is still planning for its internal elections as part of preparations for the 2024 general elections.
Deputy General Secretary of the main opposition party, Peter Boamah Otokunor said this is part of the reasons for the delay in conducting the polls.
He also stated that some challenges that were encountered in the previous elections are still being corrected.
Speaking to journalists in Accra in response to a question whether the NDC is prepared to takeover power from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), he said “What has caused the delay is that we are planning. We also had some problems and we are fixing. We are planning. We are very much prepared to take over the governance of the country.”
Unlike the NDC that is yet to start its internal polls, the NPP crowned all of its reorganizational polls on Saturday July 16 at the delegates conference in Accra to elect national executives.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo commended the leadership of his party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the competence in organizing all the internal elections.
He indicated that no party in Ghana has displayed the organizational skills and capacity that the NPP has.
He said “The final lap in electing party officials, we began with the polling station executive, 38plus polling stations, 5-member executives, we elected 6,206 electoral area coordinators, we have elected 4,658 constituency executives, and 160 regional elections, all levels of our party have been involved in these internal elections and today, we are crowning it with the national elections.
“No political party in Ghana has displayed the organizational skills and capacity that we in the NPP have done and God bless the New Patriotic Party.”
