A 25-year old Cameroonian, Logko Logko Pacome Aymar, has been arrested, charged and remanded into police custody for carrying substance suspected to be narcotic drugs.
He was allegedly trafficking three cartons of dried leaves concealed in metallic containers outside the country without lawful authority.
The Cameroonian national was put before an Accra Circuit Court, presided over by Samuel Bright Acquah on Friday.
He pleaded not guilty to unlawful possession of narcotic drugs, attempted exportation of narcotic drugs without license and use of narcotic drugs without lawful authority.
The facts
The court was told by Chief Inspector Isaac Anquandah that the complainant is a manager of Freight Forwarding Agency in Accra.
He added that the accused is a driver and a Cameroon National who resides at Cantonments in Accra.
On May 5, 2023 about 10:30 am, the complainant was at his work place when the accused went there with a Chic Choc Strawberry cartons, containing 14 metallic containers, to be exported to Douala, Cameroon.
The complainant decided to check the content of the parcel and found that all the containers contained quantity of dried plant material suspected to be narcotic drug.
The complainant, therefore, arrested the accused and handed him together with the exhibits to a witness in the case.
Later, the case was referred to the Drug Law Enforcement Unit of the CID Headquarters for investigation.
The accused confessed to the crime in his investigation caution statement, and mentioned one Winfried Henri Manga Dika, a Nigerian as his source of supply.
In the course of investigations, the suspect led police to his place of abode at Cantonments where 10 partly smoked dried leaves material suspected to be narcotic drug and cash of GH¢810.00 suspected to be proceeds from the narcotic trade were recovered.
The accused also led police to a certain house at Kwabenya where he claimed his supplier resides but he was not found.
The Exhibits have been forwarded to Forensic Science Laboratory, Accra, for examination and report.
