Ghana has been placed in Pot 2 for the 2026 World Cup African qualifiers, and could face Nigeria, Morocco, Algeria, Senegal or Tunisia in the group stage of the qualifying series.
FIFA unveiled the pots for the Africa qualifiers on July 2, with the group draw to be conducted on July 12.
Alongside Ghana in Pot 2 are Burkina Faso, South Africa, Cape Verde, DR Congo, Guinea, Zambia, Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
According to the draw rule, there will be nine groups of six teams with all the group winners qualifying for the World Cup to be jointly-hosted by, United States of America, Mexico and Canada.
The four best two will compete in a mini-tournament and the winner will make an intercontinental play-off.
The draw mechanics means Ghana could potentially be placed in the same group as any of the teams in Pot 1: Nigeria, Morocco, Senegal, Algeria, Tunisia, Cameroon, Mali, Egypt, and Ivory Coast.
The Black Stars beat Nigeria’s Super Eagles in the playoffs, to qualify to the 2022 World Cup, where they were eliminated in the group stage.
