He explained that, according to the constitution, only the family head of the deceased has the authority to decide the guest list and make arrangements for the funeral. The late pastor’s wife and children have no say in the matter; the family head holds the responsibility.

He emphasized that, after a person’s passing, their possessions and funeral arrangements become the responsibility of the family, specifically the family head.

Lawyer Anokye Frimpong clarified that any “death wish” or instructions given by the deceased regarding their funeral arrangements or inheritance is not legally enforceable. The authority lies with the family head and principal members of the extended family system.

The funeral of Rev. Anthony Kwadwo Boakye has been injuncted by a High Court due to a dispute between the widow, Margaret Boakye, and the late pastor’s family and church. The widow seeks to authenticate her marriage to the late pastor and claim her widowhood rights, while the family asserts the family head’s authority in making funeral decisions.

Additionally, an interlocutory injunction has been placed on the funeral, affecting the church, family members, and children of the late pastor.

The legal standoff has raised concerns over the proper authority in arranging the funeral rites, and the matter is currently under court deliberation.
