Nana Frimpong Zeigah, a journalist based in Kumasi, has leveled a serious accusation against former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Dapaah.
He alleges that in 2009, Cecilia Dapaah spread falsehoods about him to his political mentor, Dr. Kwame Addo Kufuor, in an attempt to tarnish their relationship.
This incident, as he explains in a video available on GhanaWeb, nearly caused a rift between him and Dr. Kufuor. Nana Frimpong hosted a current affairs program called “Mpanyin Ashia” on Garden City radio, where guests discussed trending topics. During one episode, his guest was Joseph Yammin from the NDC.
He received a call from Dr. Kufuor, who claimed that Joseph Yammin had insulted him on the show. Nana Frimpong asserts that this accusation was false. Dr. Kufuor, suspicious of the claims, requested that Nana Frimpong bring the recording of the show to verify the allegations.
Before doing so, Dr. Kufuor had warned that he would distance himself from Nana Frimpong if it turned out that Joseph Yammin indeed insulted him and Nana Frimpong didn’t defend him.
Nana Frimpong narrates, “During the early stages of my journalism career, I hosted a current affairs show on Garden City called ‘Mpanyin Ashia’. One day after recording the program, Dr. Kwame Addo Kufuor, my political mentor, called and said he had heard that Joseph Yammin had insulted him on my show… and he was going to remove me from his list.”
“I got concerned and replied that it wasn’t true. He then requested that I bring the audio to his Kumasi residence in Patasi for him to listen. At the time, Madam Cecilia Dapaah was the Bantama Member of Parliament in 2009. I remember distinctly that it was a Saturday evening around 8pm when I got there. Dr. Addo Kufuor asked me why I didn’t defend him when he was insulted on air. I told him that the person didn’t say that,” he explains.
Nana Frimpong continues, “Then he said that the person who informed him about this was Madam Cecilia Dapaah, who was present at the time. If I wanted, I could ask her. Madam Dapaah kept insisting and said I should stop talking because it was true that I allowed Dr. Kufuor to be insulted. So I told them that I had brought the audio and played it.”
He reveals that the truth came to light when Dr. Kufuor listened to the audio while on his way to Accra, putting an end to the unfounded allegations.
Cecilia Dapaah has recently been in the news due to the theft of cash from her residence in Abelemkpe. Two house helps of the former minister are currently facing charges for allegedly stealing a substantial amount of money and personal belongings. Following this scandal, Cecilia Dapaah resigned from her position as Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources.
