The seven residents of Galinkpegu were returning from their farms on the western part of the Golinga Dam when the disaster occurred.

The four are Alhassan Zakaria, 40, Yakubu Danah, 45, Alhassan Musah also 45 years of age, and Issah Baako, 46.

The three, who were retrieved on Saturday were buried after some rituals were performed at the bank of the dam.

Currently, some rituals are being performed for the last body before it will be buried.

According to one of the survivors, the weight tilted to one side of the canoe while they were paddling back.

Residents of Galinkpegu and Gbalahagu were able to help rescue the three Masahodu Issah, Dana Nablido and Sadiq Yussif, after they began swimming towards the bank, while the four drowned.

A team of National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) officials led by its led by District Director, Abdullah Salifu recovered the fourth body.

The Golinga Dam is an irrigation site farmers use for irrigation purposes in the area.

These incidents have become common in Ghana, with the majority of them mostly attributed to the absence of life jackets for many of these rural dwellers.
