Alan Kyerematen Speaks Today On The Way Forward For His Campaign

Presidential Candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen will today, Tuesday, September 5, 2023, make known the way forward for his campaign following the party’s just-ended Super Delegates’ Conference.

Shortly after the election last Saturday, August 26, the former Trade and Industry Minister sent a notice that he was going to do a public broadcast on the way forward for his campaign after his team analysed the results of the election.

The address, scheduled for 2:00 pm at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra, will be aired on major radio and television stations and on social media platforms.

In that statement, Mr Kyerematen who came third in the election, condemned the reported assault on his North-East Regional Coordinator on voting day.

According to him, the action was unwarranted and needless as his representative did nothing wrong at the voting centre.

He added that the incident was a blot on the party’s internal democratic process.

“I would however like to express my deep sorrow about the brutal assault on my polling agent in the North East Region. This is an indelible blot on the integrity of the internal democratic process within the NPP.”

“I wish my colleague a speedy recovery and God’s manifold blessings and would like to assure him and his family of my unwavering support for his well-being,” an excerpt of his release said.

Ali Zakaria was allegedly assaulted by supporters of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia after he attempted to prevent a delegate who publicly displayed his cast ballot.

Meanwhile, Mr Kyerematen has warned he will not tolerate any further attacks on his supporters.

He said it does not make sense for his supporters or that of other candidates to be attacked just for a flagbearer to be elected for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Addressing the media after he paid a visit to Zakaria, Mr Kyerematen warned, “I am not going to tolerate this kind of behaviour. It doesn’t make sense and when we cannot conduct ourselves as a family trying to select a leader in a peaceful and organised manner, how do we intend to be able to do the same kind of process when we have 200,000 plus people gathered?.”

Mr Kyeremanten’s performance in the first exercise to select only five candidates for the main election in November was a surprise to many since he was considered the main contender to the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

While Dr. Bawumia polled (629) of the total votes cast representing 68.15%, Mr. Kyeremanten polled 95 votes representing 10.82%, while the Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong came second with 132 votes, representing 15.03%.
