NPP Hold Talks With Nigeria’s Ruling Party APC.

The national chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Stephen Ntim, has led an NPP delegation to hold talks with the leadership of the All-Progressives Congress (APC) of Nigeria on the need to promote good governance in the West Africa region.

Mr Stephen Ntim was accompanied by the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP’s) national treasurer Dr Charles Dwamena and Ghana’s high commissioner to Nigeria, Rashid Bawa.

Abdullahi Ganduje, the national chairman of the All-Progressives Congress received Mr Ntim and his delegation on Sunday 1 October 2023. He described the visit of his Ghanaian counterpart as an important step towards enhancing the already cordial relationship between the NPP and APC.

In their deliberations, Ganduje stressed that a strong foundation of good governance in the West Africa region is the surest way to empower her peoples to resist any future military interventions beyond those that have already taken place in four states (Burkina Faso, Mali, Guinea and Niger).

The APC national chairman Abdullahi Ganduje also highlighted the enduring relationship between Ghana and Nigeria, pointing out the common colonial past of the two countries and their shared official language, which is English.

“This kind of visit is important and good to help us exchange ideas on how to deliver good governance to the people, and it can even reduce the tide of military incursions that we are witnessing recently.

“While we are discouraging military coups, we must improve our governance systems. When this is done, the masses will be the first to even resist any such military interventions”, the APC chairman said.

Mr Ntim on his part, indicated that the NPP is excited about her partnership with the APC. He applauded the former Kano governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, on his election as APC national chairman. He also extended the NPP’s congratulations to the Federal Republic of Nigeria on its 63rd independence anniversary.

Ntim further noted that the visit of the NPP delegation was to begin a journey between APC and NPP on how the two parties can work together to enhance good governance in the interest of its citizens.

Mr Ntim noted that Nigeria and Ghana had a long-standing relationship that could not be taken for granted, adding that since 2017, Ghana’s President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has visited Nigeria on 45 different occasions, signifying the bond between the two country and how deep rooted it is.

“We are happy and proud to be sharing this day with you. It signals greater days ahead, and we hope you will want to reciprocate this visit. As a party, we have a lot to learn from Ganduje as an individual and from the APC as a political party,” Mr Stephen Ntim said.
