The Akim Oda Volta Diaspora Caucus (VDC) has been inaugurated by the National Democratic Congress in an effort to unite all the Voltarians who support the party to vote massively for the party in the general elections that are set for 2024.

The Akim Oda VDC was officially inaugurated on Sunday, December 10, 2023, at the Akim Oda Methodist Conference Center.

The VDC National Coordinator, Mr. Basil Ahiable, and his team comprising the National Secretary, Mr. Godson Gadabor, Eastern Regional VDC Chairman, Mr. Michael Kwashie Agbolosu, and Mrs. Anthoinette Anaoi Dawoe Brooks, VDC Eastern Regional Coordinator, were all present at the inauguration ceremony.

Along with some notable Ewe chiefs in the constituency, other attendees included some of the regional and national executives, such as Hon. Abigail Elorm Mensah Akwambea, NDC Deputy National Women’s Organiser, Akim OdaNDC constituency chairman, Hon. Mumuni Gariba and Alhaji Saani Issa, NDC Eastern Regional Zongo Caucus Coordinator.

Poetry recitals, musical interludes, and Ewe traditional dances were woven throughout the durbar.

“Building the Culture Values for a Unified Force Towards Victory 2024 and Beyond Share Responsibility” was the event’s theme.

The National Secretary, Mr. Prince Godson Gadabor, swore in the VDC Executives and gave the members a brief overview of the Volta Diaspora Caucus’ history.

He reiterated that skill development training had begun in the Ashanti and Central areas and would soon be available for enrollment in all regions.

Additionally, he took the time to walk them through the welfare program and discuss the benefits of participation.

Remarks

During the National Coordinator’s keynote speech, Hon. Basil Ahiable urged everyone to collaborate as a team to illustrate the phrase “Dekaworwor.”

In addition, he pushed them to comprehend the principles of the caucus and to shun any animosity or backbiting toward one another.

“It is our responsibility as Voltarians in the Diaspora to further our own development while also keeping up our hard work for the party.”

“The NDC is ready to inaugurate more loyal groups all over the country to unite for victory in the 2024 general election, so other tribes in the party must form groups and invite us to inaugurate the groups,” he urges.

Unification
In order to foster peace, harmony, and cohesiveness, Mr. Michael Kwashie Agbolosu, the Coordinator of the Eastern Regional VDC, added his voice and counseled the people of the Volta Region to always treat each other and persons from other ethnic groups equally with respect and love.

In essence, he said, the Volta Diaspora Caucus was established to bring together and support those who reside outside of the Volta Region, as well as to offer assistance when needed.

“There are many Volta people in the Akim Oda Constituency, and it is very necessary to begin the mobilization effort and spread it to other constituencies in the Eastern Region in order to win the votes of the Volta people in these constituencies. It is not necessary to move these people to the Volta Region, but to make sure they vote for the party in the constituency they are in, he explained.

He also praised the Volta Caucus members for the unity they identified, emphasizing that the Volta Region is for the NDC, and hence urged other tribes to emulate the steps of the people of Volta to unite for victory in the 2024 election.

2024 Polls

During her guest speech at the party’s inaugural inauguration, Hon. Abigail Elorm Mensah Akwambea, the NDC’s Deputy National Women’s Organizer, advised party members, supporters, and sympathizers to prepare for a fierce campaign aimed at unseating the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the general election of 2024.

She explained that though many citizens were fed up with the government, there was a need for NDC members, faithful and well-wishers, to be peaceful, united, focused, and rigorous in their fight to make the party attractive to the electorate and win power in the next elections.

“We encourage people to come along, so we form a united, peaceful, and focused front, and once we do this, we will be able to form a formidable team that can withstand any other political party for the NDC to be able to boot out the NPP in the 2024 elections, and we need other political parties to join us to achieve this and transform the economy to ameliorate the plight of citizens,” Mrs. Abigail Elorm entreated.

Meanwhile, the Akim Oda NDC constituency chairman, Hon. Mumuni Gariba, also emphasized that there is a need to unify all Voltarians outside the Volta Region to make the NDC attractive and to win more votes in the subsequent elections in the country.

He expressed optimism and confidence that the NDC will win the Akim Oda parliamentary seat and transform the constituency in the forthcoming general elections of 2024, claiming that the incumbent NPP MP had not done anything to better the lives of the constituents.
