In December 2015, the United Nations (UN) Security Council adopted a new revolution under Section 2250 (UNSCR2250).
This resolution talks about five key action areas or pillars: participation, protection, prevention, partnership, disengagement, and reintegration. In this resolution, youth are not considered only as a group to be protected (youth as victims) nor as a group to be protected from (youth as perpetrators of violence) but are rather considered as actors for positive change in their communities, recognizing their role as catalysts for peace and actors in preventing. This revolution stipulates the increment of youth decision-making processes at all levels.
All the member states of the United Nations are obliged to implement and practice UNSCR 2250, of which Ghana is not an exception. One of the key young leaders and actors with outstanding and incredible skills helping to push Ghana to champion UNSCR 2250 through activism and strong advocacy for youth inclusiveness is Frederick Adjei who, by virtue of his activeness in youth leadership, is known as Sir Fred.
Frederick has been a phenomenal catalyst in empowering and capacity building amongst young people in Ghana for almost a decade. His actions have strived to make positive impacts on young people in Ghana, Africa, and the international world.
After his several engagements in the youths legislative arm of the United Nations Youth Association ASSOCIATION Ghana (UNYA-GH), on Saturday, December 16, 2023, Frederick was sworn in at the D.F. Annan auditorium at the Ghana Parliament House by the Justice of the Accra High Court, her ladyship Justice Rosemary Akua Baah Tosu, to be mandated and serve as the Youth Coordinator for SDG projects under the NECs of the UNYA-GH and also the Minister in charge of youth development under the Youth Government Initiatives of Ghana.
Undoubtedly, Frederick is one of the young people who have proven to push and project Ghana on the global map of youth leadership. The entire Ghanaian youth congratulates and wishes him well in his new office as a national and global asset.
