NPP Primaries: KON To Retain Ofoase-Ayirebi Seat

Lawyer Kojo Oppong Nkrumah (KON), the current Member of Parliament for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) representing the Ofoase-Ayirebi constituency and Minister of Information, submitted his nomination to compete in the party’s constituency primary on January 27, 2024.

 

This will be his third move towards Parliament since 2016.

 

 

That was after the two-time legislator submitted his nomination form to the Election Committee at the party’s constituency office at Ofoase on Monday, December 25th, 2023.

 

 

 

The affable politician was accompanied by a mammoth crowd of party delegates and supporters adorned in his campaign T-shirts and banners as they marched through the principal streets of the constituency, displaying party paraphernalia as they expressed their unwavering support for the aspiring parliamentary candidate amidst brass band music.

 

 

 

 

They later gathered at the party’s constituency office, where the legal practitioner presented his forms and the filing fee of GHC 35,000 to the constituency chairman of the Election Committee and its other members.

 

The chairman of the Election Committee called on Lawyer Kojo Oppong Nkrumah and his followers to exercise decorum and circumspection in their statements as they campaign for votes.

He stressed the need for all the aspiring candidates to run a clean campaign devoid of insults and personal attacks since the contest was an internal one.

 

 

 

Speaking to the media shortly after he filed his nomination, Mr. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah thanked the party members for taking time out of their hectic schedules to continue to demonstrate their affection for him and vowed to keep them in the loop.

He voiced hope that he would prevail in the constituency’s parliamentary primary on January 27, 2024, and keep the seat for the NPP.

According to him, he has been their MP for almost 8 solid years and has worked with humility, hard work, and dedication; for that matter, they cannot throw that experience away.

He also urged supporters to unite to enable the party to win the seat and break the “eight.”.

 

 

 

In order for the NPP to win the majority of votes necessary to break the eight and hold onto the Ofoase-Ayirebi seat, Mr. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah urged all of the delegates to support him.

He said, “We must make sure we double our efforts in order to break the “eight” for the NDC to remain in opposition.”

 

“This is an internal contest, and I believe the NPP will win the 2024 general elections if the party remains united before and after the internal elections in January.”.
