Easter is a time of giving, time to share love and hope for a better ‘next year’. Unfortunately, not everyone get this treat- most especially widows who are often marginalized.
In making a difference in the lives of the people in his Constituency, on Easter Monday, 5th April 2021, the accessible member of parliament for Ejisu Constituency in the Ashanti Region of Ghana, Hon. Lawyer John Ampontuah Kumah has pulled a big surprise on the widows in his constituency as the affable legislator supported 500 widows with pieces of quality Ghanaian fabric cloth and small cash as their easter celebration gifts.
Since some widows find it difficult in making ends meet, he will make himself available so that he can provide the beneficiaries with equal support (which they used to get from their husbands). Mr John Kumah says the offer is his contribution to put smiles on the faces of the needy and vulnerable during the yuletide.
He made it known to MyGhanaMedia Online that he is aimed at supporting and bringing smiles to the faces of widows every year.
He used the opportunity to admonish other MPs to also engage themselves in such benevolent activities because putting smiles on the faces of the poor and deprived must be a shared responsibility and not a sole-reserved-responsibility of a selected few in the society.
“Although the government led by H.E Akufo-Addo has already budgeted to target on Supporting the widows in our country but on our part as government officials, MPs, and even individuals who have enough to Support let us do our best.”
The widows were drawn from areas in the constituency, namely the Fumesua zone, Ejisu Zone and Onwe Zone. He has also started compiling a list of all widows in Ejisu. Present during the donation were Chiefs and Traditional Leaders as well as Constituency Executives who also helped to make the programme a memorable one.
The widows couldn’t hide their joy and happiness at the kind gesture bestow upon them by their humble legislator. They expressed their immense gratitude to Hon John Kumah for remembering and honouring them annually.
The widows Prayed for long life with Good Health and Prosperity for the MP.
