Voting has ended in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Primaries in designated constituencies.
A total of 321 candidates are contending for tickets to represent the NPP in the 2024 parliamentary elections, with 33 of these candidates going unopposed. The Electoral Commission is supervising the election.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) incumbent Member of Parliament for Akyem Swedru, Kennedy Osei Nyarko has retained his seat as the parliamentary candidate for the December 7 polls.
In a keenly contested race with two other aspirants, the three-time legislator secured 196 votes.
His two contenders the Controller and Accountant-General, Kwasi Kwaning-Bosompem came second polling 94 votes while the third; a Tema-based businessman, Jerome Okyere–Akordor had 10 votes
Below are results that have trickled in so far:
Asene Manso Akroso
The incumbent Member of Parliament for Asene Manso Akroso constituency in the Eastern Region, George Kwame Aboagye has retained his candidature.
He polled a total of 362 votes against his contender, Alex Owusu Adjei who polled 152 votes
Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has successfully retained his position in the Ofoase Ayirebi constituency during the NPP primaries.
The results reveal a commanding performance by Oppong Nkrumah, securing 378 votes.
His opponents, Eric Owusu Mensah and Maxwell Dwamena, garnered 92 and 100 votes, respectively.
K.T. Hammond retains seat
The incumbent Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa constituency in the Ashanti Region, Kobina Tahir Hammond has retained his candidature.
K.T. Hammond polled a total of 311 votes representing 63.86% against his contender, Samuel Darkwa Binfo who polled 125 votes representing 25.67%
K.T. Hammond has been a Member of Parliament for the constituency for five consecutive terms, spanning the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th parliaments.
Gifty Twum-Ampofo loses Abuakwa North,
The incumbent Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North, Gifty Twum-Ampofo has lost her bid to represent the Abuakwa North constituency.
She polled 202 votes while Nana Ampaw Addo-Frempong popularly known as Buffalo polled 222 votes to win the parliamentary primary.
A prominent figure in Ghana’s security and governance, Palgrave Boakye Danquah polled 76 votes while Nana Kwame Mamfe had four votes.
Gideon Boako wins Tano North
In the Tano North constituency, Freda Prempeh has lost the parliamentary primary to the Spokesperson of the Vice President and NPP flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. Freda Prempeh polled 221 votes while Gideon Boako polled 444 votes.
In the Atiwa West constituency, Laurrette Korkor Asante polled 177 votes to win the primary to replace Kwasi Amoako Attah ahead of the upcoming December elections.
Prince Benjamin Aboagye polled 134 votes while Kingsley Ofosu Ntiamoah polled 48 votes. Samuel Awuah Danquah had only 18 votes.
Ablekuma West NPP primaries
Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has won the Ablekuma West seat in the ongoing NPP parliamentary primaries.
This follows the close of polls at the constituency on Saturday, January 27, 2024.
According to results from GhanaWeb’s Ishmael Batoma, as announced by the Electoral Commission official at the constituency, the Minister of Communications and Digitalisation, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful polled 812 out of the 1108 total votes cast.
Roni Kwesi Nicol, who was contesting the sitting MP, lost his bid.
Bekwai constituency
COP George Alex Mensah has lost in his first attempt to become the Member of Parliament for the Bekwai constituency.
He polled 245 against his contender, Ralph Opoku Adusei, who polled 662.
COP George Alex Mensah was optimistic about a win, especially after he was endorsed by the current Member of Parliament.
But Lawyer Ralph Opoku Adusei who has been a grassroots man proved his mettle as he beat his main contender.
Kwesimintim NPP primaries
Incumbent MP for Kwesimintim constituency, Hon. Dr. Prince Hamid Armah has emerged triumphant in the ongoing NPP Parliamentary primaries, securing a decisive victory over his opponent, Dr. Mrs. Yaa Pokua Baiden.
The election, closely watched by constituents and political enthusiasts alike, unfolded with an atmosphere of anticipation and enthusiasm.
At the end of the keenly contested race, Hon. Dr. Prince Hamid Armah amassed a total of 248 votes, while his contender Dr. Mrs. Yaa Pokua Baiden amassed 160 votes.
There was one rejected vote.
Bortianor Ngleshie Amafrom
Sylvester Tetteh also won the Bortianor Ngleshie Amafrom parliamentary primary.
He polled 590 votes while Vida Agyekum Acheampong polled 461 votes, Eric Kojo Kuranachie had 34 votes.
Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh won the parliamentary primary for Nsawam Adoagyiri Constituency. He polled 734 votes while CEO of the Ghana Library Authority, Hayford Siaw polled 228 votes.
Atiwa East
In Atiwa East Deputy Finance Minister Abena Osei-Asare polled 288 votes to win the parliamentary primary for the constituency. Dr Banning polled 11 votes, while Eric Agyarko had 67 votes and Adade Wiredu polled 44 votes.
Atewa West Constituency
The Deputy CEO of SSNIT, Laurrete Korkor Asante polled a stunning 117 votes to win the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Primaries in the Atewa West Constituency.
After the EC representative declared her the winner she said “I promise to give you my best and I will never disappoint you, with the hope you have in me I promise to pay you back.”
Laurrete Korkor got 117 votes, Samuel Awuah Danquah 18, Kingley Ntiamoah 48, Prince Aboagye 138.
380 voters were expected to cast their votes. 378 voted with no ballot rejection.
Bantama constituency
In the Bantama constituency, Francis Asenso-Boakye won with 650 votes while Ralph Agyapong brother of Kennedy Agyapong polled 186 votes.
Abuakwa South constituency
Scholarship Secretariat Boss, Kingsley Agyemang has pulled through in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) elections in the Abuakwa South constituency of the Eastern Region.
The total number of voters expected to vote was 605, and 569 voted in favour of Kingsley Agyemang and Gloria Ofori polled 29 votes; there was no rejected ballot, and 7 didn’t vote.
Kingsley Agyemang was declared the winner of the Abuakwa South Constituency.
Fanteakwa South
In the just-ended NPP primaries, Kofi Okyere Agyekum, popularly known as Arafat, the sitting Member of Parliament for Fanteakwa South, has faced a setback in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries.
Arafat polled 95 of the votes with Duke Ofori-Atta getting 273, 44 for Abdul Razak, Louisa Boakye 16, and Joseph Nana Akomea.
The total number of votes cast was 429, with 1 ballot rejected.
The EC official declared Duke Ofori Atta the winner for Fantekwa South.
Manhyia South
Energy Minister and sitting Member of Parliament for Manhyia South has won the Manhyia South NPP primary held on Saturday, January 27.
He polled 486 votes representing 88.5% as against 63 votes polled by his contender Helina Pinamang representing 11.5%.
With this emphatic victory, Dr Prempeh seeks his 5th term in Parliament, having made his debut appearance on the constituency’s political scene in 2008.
Nhyiaeso constituency
The Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry and Member of Parliament (MP) for the Nhyiaeso constituency, Dr. Stephen Amoah, has successfully retained his seat and will contest the 2024 general elections on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to a TV3 report, Dr. Stephen Amoah has secured the maximum votes to win the Nhyiaeso constituency parliamentary seat.
The official results are yet to be declared by the Electoral Commission which would detail the exact number of votes he won the elections with.
The NPP parliamentary primaries were held on January 27, 2023, to elect candidates for the general elections.
The primaries were held across the country, except for constituencies where the party has no sitting MPs or where the party lost in the 2020 elections.
Oforikrom Constituency
Ghanaian entrepreneur and the founder of Glitz Africa, Claudia Lumor has lost her bid to become the NPP parliamentary candidature for the Oforikrom Constituency.
The renowned showbiz and fashion personality announced her intentions to contest the Oforikrom constituency primaries in the Ashanti region in December 2023, hoping to topple Emmanuel Marfo, the current MP for the constituency.
The NPP Oforikrom parliamentary primaries was fiercely contested by five personalities, with Claudia Lumor being the only female in the race.
Claudia Kwarteng Lumor went home with only 351 votes, coming second to Michael Kwasi Aidoo who emerged victorious with 666 votes.
Other candidates included Nelson Owusu Ansah with 92 votes, Joseph Tieyiri with 13, and Gyamfi Nkrumah Adwabour with 8.
This comes after Claudia Lumor revealed the financial difficulties she had encountered in her campaign. She admitted that she is broke and that the campaign has been hard stating that she was in the race for Ghana and the NPP.
Essikado Ketan constituency
The former Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Committee Against Illegal Mining (IMCIM), Charles Bissue, has won the parliamentary seat for the Essikado Ketan constituency.
He won over his contenders with a total vote cast of 333.
Charles Bissue’s win placed him ahead of his contender, the Deputy Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), Yaw Amoakohene Baafi, who polled 233 votes.
Heman Lower Denkyira Constituency
The CEO of Exim Bank, Lawrence Agyisam, has won the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s parliamentary primary in the Heman Lower Denkyira Constituency.
He secured a landslide victory with a 104-vote difference, receiving a total of 273 votes, while the incumbent MP, Bright Wireko-Brobby, garnered 176 votes.
There was a total vote of 442.
His supporters are in cheers celebrating the victory.
Asante Akyem Central
The Chief Executive Officer for the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has conceded defeat.
However, he says the album is made up of family and friends of the current Member of Parliament, so he anticipated he would lose.
“Please don’t blame my Asante Akyem Central People oooo. They want me paa but the People in the Album 3ne as3m no. Family and Friends one but I decided to run on it so I have accepted the Consequences,” he posted on his Facebook page.
He polled 213 against Kwame Anyimadu Antwi who polled 374 of the votes cast on the day.
This is the second time Kofi Ofosu Nkansah has lost the contest.
Atwima Nwabiagya South Constituency
COP(Retired) George Tuffuor polled 324 votes against 209 votes for the incumbent Hon Emmanuel Agyei Anwhire, 395 votes for the victor Madam Shirley Kyei, and 6 votes for Dr Dennis Addo.
By the results, the incumbent MP has been toppled by a first-timer female candidate who has since been duly declared the NPP’s parliamentary candidate in the 2024 polls.
Meanwhile, 940 Delegates cast their Votes in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Constituency with 35 Delegates absent
Bekwai Constituency
At the end of polls, George Alex Mensah who was the Director General of Operations and Director General of Technical Services polled 245 votes against Lawyer Ralph Opoku Adusei who polled 662 votes.
Nsawam Adoagyiri Constituency
The Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has emerged victorious in the parliamentary primary for the Nsawam Adoagyiri Constituency.
Annoh-Dompreh secured a total of 734 votes, while his contender, Hayford Siaw, the CEO of the Ghana Library Authority, garnered 228 votes.
Leading up to the primary, Annoh-Dompreh expressed confidence in securing a resounding victory, aiming to retain the Nsawam Adoagyiri seat with over 80 percent of the total votes.
He emphasised his intention to teach Siaw a political lesson that would be memorable.
Weija Gbawe Constituency
The incumbent Weija Gbawe MP, Tina Mensah, has been defeated in the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary elections by Jerry Ahmed Shaib, the CEO of the Coastal Development Authority (CoDA).
Out of the 1151 votes, Jerry Ahmed beat Tina Mensah with a whopping 786 votes, representing 68.53%, to take the win as the NPP Weija-Gbawe parliamentary candidate.
Despite Tina Mensah’s earlier confident declaration of herself as the “landlord” and her opponent as a “rented aspirant,” stating that the seat was not for sale, she failed in her re-election bid.
Tina Mensah, who had expressed confidence in her victory based on her track record, garnered only 361 votes, representing 31.47%.
Ayawaso Central Constituency
Greater Accra Regional Minister Henry Quartey has successfully retained the Ayawaso Central candidacy after securing 594 valid votes in the New Patriotic Party’s Parliamentary Primary held on Saturday, January 27.
His victory means that he has secured the seat for the fourth consecutive time.
His competitor, Moses Abor, former Greater Accra Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party, polled 326 votes.
Atwima Mponua
The incumbent Member of Parliament for Atwima Mponua, Isaac Kwame Asiamah, has been dashed as he has lost the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primary.
Juaben Constituency
Minerals Consultant Francis Owusu-Akyaw has been declared winner of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries in the Juaben Constituency.
He polled 334 of the total votes, defeating sitting MP and Deputy Communications Minister Ama Pomaa Boateng who secured 120 votes.
The election which was supervised by the Electoral Commission was held at the Methodist School park on Saturday.
In his victory speech Francis Owusu-Akyaw pledged to unite the party to appreciate more votes for the party’s flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Tarkwa-Nsuaem
The Member of Parliamentary (MP) for Tarkwa-Nsuaem won the New Patriotic Party’s primaries with a landslide victory.
He pulled 1,187 votes out of the 1,256 total votes cast, representing over 95% to whip his contenders.
His contenders, Gordon Opoku Boateng and one Ellias managed to garner 46 and 22 votes respectively.
This was the third time the MP won the primary to represent the NPP as its parliamentary candidate ahead of the 2024 general election.
The election, held at the University of Mines and Technology campus was generally peaceful.
