Due to the sporadic power outages that are now occurring in the country, Ashanti Regional Minister Simon Osei Mensah has vowed to convene a protest against the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
Mr. Simon Osei Mensah claims that the rationale for his decision to protest against these two corporations is that there have been frequent power outages without any kind of justification from GRIDCo or the ECG concerning the true cause of the outage.
The regional minister stated that he has not yet communicated with the Ministry of Energy to find out the cause of the power outages in his area in an interview with Kumas-based Angel FM.
The enraged Minister went on to say that even though he is a member of the current NPP government, he will not stand by and let these two companies deprive his region’s residents of access to energy, particularly when other regions are not going through a comparable circumstance.
ECG Assures ‘Dumsor’ Is Not Returning; Apologizes To Ghanaians For Recent Power Outages.
“The word of caution am sending to the ECG and GRIDCO is that I will demonstrate against them if I don’t receive a satisfactory explanation after hearing the Ministry of Energy’s response. I’m saying this and everybody should put on record, I’ll be the first government appointee, the first Regional Minister to lead a demonstration in this region if they are not able to give a reasonable explanation”, he made a threat.
“I’ll lead a demonstration in the region and that time nobody should come and stop me”, he added.
Mr. Simon Osei Mensah’s threat follows months of power outages in the Ashanti Region, primarily in the greater Kumasi area.
The subject of whether “dumsor” is back has also been a hot topic of conversation among the local populace.
Residents have demanded that the Electricity Company of Ghana release a schedule.
