A cross-section of residents in the Birim Central Municipality of the Eastern Region have expressed mixed reactions about the removal of their Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) from the office by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
On Tuesday, March 19, 2024, a letter from the Minister of State, O.B. Amoah, announced the dismissal of Madam Victoria Adu in accordance with the Constitution and the Local Government Act.
She has been instructed to hand over her duties to the Regional Minister, who will exercise oversight responsibility for the Municipal Assembly until a successor is appointed and confirmed as the new MCE.
MyGhanaMedia.com has gathered that while some of the residents jubilated after hearing the news, others indicated that the timing was wrong.
Some residents expressed their gratitude to the President for dismissing their MCE and expressed the hope that a different person with the necessary skills would be nominated to carry on the government’s development plan in the area.
Some of them, however, have also demanded the MCE’s reinstatement, claiming that her firing came at the incorrect time.
Regarding her termination, the residents of Akyem Aboabo stated the following.
Akyem Oda Township residents added this.
Below are also the words of some of the market women at Akyem Oda.
