Mahama Is Distressed Over Free SHS Implementation; He Can Never Be A Good Leader — Obiri Boahen

Legal expert and political figure, Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen, has strongly criticized John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), for his remarks suggesting that the government is using the distribution of free tablets to gain votes.

Mahama made these comments while speaking at a student gathering at Wisconsin University in Accra, insinuating that the government’s tablet distribution policy was aimed at swaying young voters towards the NPP in the upcoming December elections.

Expressing his dismay in an interview captured by Nana Owusu Achiaw, Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen emphasized that it is inappropriate for a former president to make such statements, indicating Mahama’s discontent with the implementation of free Senior High School (SHS) education.

He further stated that as a respected political figure, he feels compelled to speak out against Mahama’s remarks, even if it means criticizing a former president.

He expressed that he isn’t shocked when certain members of the NPP occasionally criticize him for his remarks.

Asserting his opinion on Mahama’s leadership abilities, Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen compared his remarks, demeanor, and actions unfavorably to those of Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

“Let me be sincere and forthright. John Mahama can never be a good leader; he is not a good leader. His comments, utterances, and body language must be compared to Bawumia and see the difference. Come on, a former president should not spew that,” he said.

Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen also referenced Mahama’s educational background, suggesting that his privileged upbringing should have imparted a better understanding of the importance of initiatives like free SHS.

“You had free SHS; you went to Achimota; your father enrolled you at Tamale SHS; at that time there was Northern scholarship.”

Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen concluded by emphasizing his focus on promoting the vice president as a potential President rather than engaging with Mahama and the NDC.
