Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, has denounced nepotism in Ghanaian society.

According to him, “family and friends” obstruct national progress and shouldn’t be encouraged in any manner.

Opportunities must be granted to everybody regardless of their affiliations with their families or tribes, he says

On the contrary, Asantehene added that attention ought to be directed towards those who possess the necessary skills to do the task.

Otumfuo cited the Asante Kingdom as an example, saying that it has long coexisted with people from other tribes and accepted everyone.

He added that the recruitment procedures in his kingdom place a greater value on competence than tribal ties when it comes to decision-making regarding employment.

In the opinion of the Asantehene, that is the most effective approach to grow the Asante Kingdom, and it is imperative that this be done in the country for the sake of the nation’s development.
