Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen, the former Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has strongly cautioned the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, not to attempt to intimidate the ruling party.

Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen’s comments come in response to the NDC’s refusal to sign a peace declaration ahead of the 2024 elections.

Asiedu Nketia declared that the NDC party will not be signing any peace declaration as the country approaches the upcoming election.

Speaking during a meeting with the National Peace Council on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, he expressed scepticism about the effectiveness of such agreements, citing past experiences.

He outlined six conditions, including requiring the President, the Inspector-General of Police, the Chief Justice, the National Security Coordinator, and the Attorney General to all sign the pact.

In an interview, he questioned the rationale behind Asiedu Nketia’s demand that the President, the Inspector-General of Police, the Chief Justice, the National Security Coordinator, and the Attorney General sign the peace agreement.

Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen, asserted that the NPP is resilient and should not be underestimated by Asiedu Nketia and the NDC.

“I have extensively studied the Northern People’s Party, the NLM, and the UP Tradition. The Danquah-Dombo-Busia tradition may be quiet, but it is far from weak. If you try to intimidate them, you’ll soon realize their true strength,” he stated.

He alleged that Asiedu Nketia’s children hold Canadian citizenship, speculating that the NDC Chairman might also be a Canadian citizen.

He emphasized the historical strength of the Danquah-Dombo-Busia tradition, recalling how the NPP endured challenging elections in 1992 and 1996 without faltering.

Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen warned Asiedu Nketia, along with other NDC leaders, that the NPP will not be intimidated and urged them to refrain from inciting tension.

“Let me take this opportunity to inform Asiedu Nketia, Hannah Bissiw, Sammy Gyamfi, Omane Boamah, and others that the NPP is not weak.”

He reiterated his unwavering support for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and vowed to continue advocating for his leadership.

“I am the driver of the Mamprusi train, and I will continue to lead it. Everyone in the country knows that I was the one who initiated the Bawumia campaign, and I will keep supporting him. No one should fear, no matter the challenges ahead,” he said
