The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) has clarified that the exhibition of the Provisional Voters Register is meant to address and correct any errors and omissions.
The EC explained that the final voter register, used for elections, is printed only after all identified issues have been resolved. This process has been standard practice since 1992.
This clarification follows concerns raised by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), which highlighted discrepancies in the current Provisional Voter Register exhibition.
The NDC has consequently requested an emergency meeting with the electoral management body to discuss these issues.
However, in a post on Facebook, on Wednesday, August 28, the EC stated “The rationale for exhibiting the Provisional Voters Register is to correct errors and omissions.
“It is only after all identified issues are corrected that the Final Register is printed for the Elections. This has been the practice since 1992.”
The EC called on the public to ignore claims that the voter register is not fit for purpose.
