TUSAAG Declares Nationwide Strike

The Technical University Senior Administrators Association of Ghana (TUSAAG) has declared a nationwide strike, effective September 27, 2024.

This industrial action is in response to the government’s failure to meet obligations under the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and its refusal to implement revised allowances for senior members of public universities.

TUSAAG, in an official statement, expressed frustration over the government’s continued disregard for agreements made in July 2024, following a directive from the Ministry of Finance in May 2024.

The association noted that the failure to honor these commitments constitutes a violation of their rights and highlights the government’s lack of attention to their concerns.

“The Technical University Senior Administrators Association of Ghana (TUSAAG) hereby declares a nationwide strike action effective tomorrow, 27th September 2024, in response to the government’s disregard for obligations under the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and failure to implement the revised allowances for senior members of public universities,” portions of the statement read.

It added that “we have exhausted all options for discussion. The continued inaction is not only unacceptable but also a clear breach of the CBA.”

The group also accused the government of engaging in discriminatory practices, favouring other unions in public universities when it comes to the payment of common allowances while neglecting TUSAAG members.

The association outlined key demands, including the immediate payment of agreed-upon allowances, such as vehicle maintenance, off-campus, fuel, utility, and sanitation/security allowances. They also called for a formal acknowledgment of their grievances and a commitment to fully implement the terms of the CBA.

In their declaration, TUSAAG stated, “Effective tomorrow, we will withdraw all services across all technical universities in Ghana until our demands are met.”
