National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Mahama, has hit back at President Akufo-Addo after the latter labeled him a “one-term president.”
During a tour of the Ahafo Region, President Akufo-Addo questioned Mahama’s political influence, suggesting that his lack of a second term undermines his credibility and that he shouldn’t boast of a higher “level” than others.
This exchange follows Mahama’s refusal to engage in a debate with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the 2024 election.
In response, Mahama highlighted his achievements while in office and reaffirmed his commitment to Ghana’s progress.
Speaking at a governance forum in Accra on Thursday, Mahama remarked that his contributions to the country transcend any single term of service.
“I know my level. If someone says I have no level because I served only one term, I know my level is definitely not to be a clearing agent,” he said, alluding to perceived differences in governance approaches between himself and the current administration.
Mr. Mahama emphasized his dedication to transparency and accountability, pledging to prioritize these values if re-elected.
“This is not a quest for witch-hunting, but it is a genuine desire by Ghanaians to see public officers held to account for the public trust placed in them.
“Fighting corruption requires courage and principle. I will ensure meritorious appointments and allow systems of transparency and accountability to operate with full authority,” he asserted.
