Former NPP Deputy General Secretary Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen has strongly criticized Sammy Gyamfi, National Communications Director of the NDC, and Dela Edem, a member of John Mahama’s campaign team, for their disparaging remarks against former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
The backlash followed Kufuor’s endorsement of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the ideal candidate to lead Ghana.
Dela Edem, speaking on an NDC-affiliated TV station, controversially linked Kufuor’s wheelchair confinement to alleged “evil deeds” during his presidency, claiming, “Your evil deeds have now kept you in the wheelchair.”
In response, Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen dismissed the comments as unprovoked insults, accusing the NDC of lacking substantive messages for the upcoming elections and resorting to personal attacks as their “stock in trade.”
Highlighting Kufuor’s legacy, Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen emphasized the former president’s stature, remarking, “Kufuor is no small man. He opened a new chapter for the NPP in 2001, and his contributions cannot be erased.”
He further vowed that Kufuor’s name would be immortalized in the party’s legacy.
“In the unlikely event that Kufour passes away, we will add his name to the Danquah-Dombo-Busia tradition. If I am still alive, I will ensure it happens. Kufour did not come from a poor family, his parents were not poor, and he is not a small man. How can you insult Ama Dapaah’s son? Sammy Gyamfi could be Kufour’s grandson, yet the NDC’s stock-in-trade is insult,” he said.
Calling for decency in political discourse, he urged Ghanaians not to be swayed by the NDC’s tactics.
“We live in a digitized world, yet the NDC focuses on insults,” he stated.
