President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has commissioned the Flower Pot Interchange in Accra.
This significant infrastructure project aims to ease traffic congestion on the North and South corridors of the Tema Motorway, enhancing connectivity and improving travel times for commuters.
The Flower Pot Interchange features an 802-meter dual carriageway viaduct with asphaltic concrete surfacing, a 140-meter ramp from Shiashie onto the viaduct towards Airport Hills, and an 80-meter ramp connecting the viaduct to the Motorway towards Tema.
The project also includes a new road through the old tunnel at East Legon, pedestrian walkways, and road furniture such as streetlights and traffic signals.
Commencing in March 2017, the project was contracted to China Railway No. 5 Engineering Ghana Limited, with Deoke Consult Ltd serving as the consultant.
The contract duration was 93 months and was funded by Afrexim Bank and the Government of Ghana for GHS 677,839,999.5.
Delivering his remarks during the commissioning of the Flower Pot Interchange in Accra on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, the President underscored his government’s dedication to enhancing the country’s infrastructure

“Let us remember that this project is one among many. From the Northern Savanna to the southern coastline and from east to west, we are building a new Ghana. One where roads, bridges, schools and hospitals rise as symbols of a nation that works for everyone.
“It is fitting then to acknowledge that this administration has constructed more roads and interchanges than any other in our nation’s history.
“In the Greater Accra Region alone, we have completed the Pokuase Interchange, the Tema Motorway Interchange Phase I, Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange Phase I, the East Legon Underpass and today, this Flower Pot Interchange,” President Akufo-Addo stated.
Beyond Accra, the president highlighted other major interchanges and roads currently ongoing in other regions.
“Beyond Accra, we have also delivered the first-ever interchanges in the Eastern Region at Suhum and in the Northern Region at Tamale. Each of these projects tells a story of commitment to a Ghana that is continuously moving forward,” he added.Tourism packagesTourism packages
