Metro TV Incident: Randy Abbey Explains What Happened

Spread the love

The host of Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana, Dr Randy Abbey, has spoken to the media about the developing story involving armed police officers who reportedly invaded the station on the morning of Wednesday, November 27.

According to him, the armed officers were accompanied by a court bailiff to execute a court order on the broadcasting firm.

He alleged that the officers harassed him and attempted to seize his car.

“Even when I entered, a pickup truck full of policemen arrived, blocked me, and got out to say that they were here to serve a court order and were seizing my car. I asked, ‘You are seizing my car for what?’ They said they had a court order against Metro TV, and I replied, ‘This car is not for Metro TV.'”

Dr Abbey explained that he understood the officers had arrived at the premises long before his arrival: “I was on my way to start Good Morning Ghana, to host my show, so apparently, they had already been parked, waiting for me.”

He questioned the legitimacy of the court order: “If you have a legitimate court order and what you are doing is legitimate, come and execute your order. Why are you looking for me? Why would you come and block my car?”

The seasoned journalist also expressed his frustration about how the incident disrupted his show, condemning the officers’ actions vehemently. He also voiced concerns about the involvement of the Ghana Police Service, asking, “And you have armed policemen following them to do these foolish things? What kind of impunity is this?” he stressed.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has issued a statement about the incident, urging the company’s staff and management to remain calm while it investigates the incident.

According to the police statement, the officers accompanied the bailiff to execute a court order on behalf of a creditor, Vodacom Business Ghana Limited.

According to Mr Abbey, some private security officers at the station sustained injuries while attempting to prevent the armed officers and the court bailiff from entering the studio where Good Morning Ghana was being filmed.
