The family of Akua Donkor, founder of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), has announced her funeral arrangements following her passing at the age of 83.
The final rites, including her burial, will take place on Saturday, 29 March 2025, at Ejuratia, in the Ashanti Region.
The ceremony will begin with a lying in state from 4:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., followed by a burial service from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
The funeral rites will then continue in the afternoon from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Akua Donkor passed away on 28 October 2024, ahead of Ghana’s elections. Her death came as a shock to many, as she was a significant figure in Ghanaian politics despite having no formal education.
Renowned for her outspoken nature, she was a strong advocate for the rights of farmers and women.
Throughout her political career, she made several attempts to contest the presidency, demonstrating resilience despite financial challenges. Her influence on grassroots politics and national discourse made her one of Ghana’s most recognisable female politicians.
