A/R: MCE Hot As Residents Demands For His Removal

Residents of Atwima Nwabiagya in the Ashanti Region are kicking against backroom moves by some Constituency, Regional and National Executives of the New Patriotic Party(NP)) to retain the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Michael Amoah Awuku.

Many of the residents in the Atwima Nwabiagya Municipal Assembly said the MCE did not deserve a re-appointment due to his “incompetence, divisive leadership” and the “destructive role” he played in the loss of the parliamentary seat in the 2020 General Elections.

Speaking to in an interview with the some selected media, some of the  residents said the MCE had brought deep divisions and weakened the Party’s stance in the Municipality by intimidating.

They are of the view that any attempt to impose him on residents and the party would be fatal to the NPP’s chances in the next general elections calling on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in a two-page petition to appoint a more competent person to take up the position.  According to them, the MCE’s abysmal performance in the last four years is the reason the Atwima Nwabiagya South area in particular, is lagging behind in development, arguing that there is the need for him to pave way for a more competent person to continue from where he left off.

“We are basing our claims of his incompetence on the following; it is only under his watch that the receipt for payment of permit is issued by a written statement. It is never done in any office or institution of the government office. This is a clear indication of corruption of which we need not to entertain such act in our country. A fee fixing for fencing a building on a plot of land should not be above GHC500 per the assembly concept but someone were made to pay GHC4, 000 for that.

The victim felt cheated so he contacted someone who knows the assembly concept very well and he is the person of Mr. Kusi Boafo for clarification. He was made known that the amount involved is too high therefore he directed the victim to visit the MCE office for clarification, maybe for a refund or for better explanation but the MCE office did nothing about it.And there are numerous act of such behaviour going on within the assembly under the MCE watch”, the petition read in part.

Acts if intimidation they claim is being employed against them indicating that “majority of the people in the Constituency cannot share their feelings and views in the Constituency for fear of been victimized. As a result other interested parties in the MCE position are not to be able to come out openly to contest”Meanwhile, party supporters are shocked the MCE unleashed armed security on them while demonstrating against any attempt to impose him on them by executives of the party.

Though the MCE claims he was not behind the visit by the armed police and soldiers, the demonstrators insist they acted on his order to disperse them from expressing their grievances against him seeking another term in office.

Meanwhile, a concerned group called Atwima Youth For Development in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Constituency Has Petition Akufo-Addo demanding the ramoval of the MCE.

PETITION TO H.E. NANA ADDO DANKWA AKUFFO-ADDO

Your Excellency, we have not witnessed any development project initiated by the Municipal
Assembly for the past four years. All the developmental projects are central government
funded. The citizenry feel reluctant to honour their tax obligations because they do not see
any direct benefits from the Assembly’s own resources.
He (Hon Michael Amoah Awuku) has sold Government property (Grader) in the area to
individual MP.

He is also found of selling Government recruitment (Security Services, Cocoa Board, to
people instead of giving it out to them based on qualification or merit leading to the collapsed
of the party in the area.
Hon Michael Amoah Awuku. has no respect for the leaders and chiefs for the area neither for
the grassroots.
He has given government land to individuals for 50 years contract to MP and one Mr. Osei
Bonsu.

Whilst the people blame him for his underperformance and incompetency, he also blame the
Government for that of which the people as well as we the chiefs and elders disagree with
him. We know what the president can do.

The MCE is making NPP unpopular in the municipality due to his autocratic attitude and
behaviour. Intimidation and abuse of power among others is how he use to steer the party.
Just recently, he ordered some macho men to beat the youth who organised press conference
to voice out the happenings in the municipal. These youth are known to be the backbone of
the NPP in the municipal.

He has disrespecting we the chiefs for quiet long and just recently he ordered his boys to
insult us on radio.

In his tenure as MCE, we have witnessed a slow pace of developmental projects from the
Assembly’s own internally generated resources. Unfortunately, he has also superintended
over division amongst the NPP party members, Chiefs and people, and the public workers.
The above reasons among others manifested in the 2020 general election results. Page 2 of 2
Your Excellency in 2016 you garnered 48,172 (82.75%) votes as against NDC’s 9,772
(16.79%).

The MP, Hon Emmanuel Agyei Anhwere votes were 48,264 (83.15%). However,
in 2020 elections Your Excellency garnered 58,109 (80.24%) votes as against NDC.s votes
of 13,827 (19.09%). Results of the 2020 parliamentary elections is worthy of scrutiny. The
incumbent MP Hon Emmanuel Agyei Anhwere obtained 46, 929 (65.08%) votes, a
whooping difference of 11,180 votes below the President’s votes. An NPP Independent
candidate obtained 12, 734 (17.66%) votes. This is as a result of disunity prevailing at the
constituency.

Campaign money meant for Election 2020 was pocketed and again money for Assemblymen
were not fairly distributed from National and Region to give each Assemblymen GHC300.00
Hon. Amoah Awuku, the M.C.E is not the right person for us and for the office so please
Nana help us to get the rightful person.
So we count on you to help us.

Thank You
